John, I just used Tamiya clear yellow over the Alclad polished aluminum I put on the wheels.

Thanks for the comments. Yeah, I really like the knock offs too. The reference pics I had for the Doty car with this scheme had them. I got these from R&D Unique (http://www.rndunique.com/rnd_displayitem.cfm?pk=96) and they're actually pewter, so I didn't have to finish them. I did drill out the center, and ground down the center nut on the wheels with a low-speed dremel-like tool.

I also found some good ones that would work well in the Revell Cobra kit. I think I might resin cast both of them and see how they turn out if I want to use more later.
