Josh Wise 2005 USAC Sprint car

Post by daveyracer »

Hey guys.... its been a long time... I think its time I decided to finish this thing...

With Jeremy lighting my burners and the fact that Mike Crowley from Dirtmodeler.com is coming out with a whole line of PE sheets (which I have on preorder) I decided to get back on my Josh Wise 2005 USAC Sprint Car.

I dove right in and worked on the rear end setup this weekend. I hovered in Clay and lou Scroggins fotki albums along with real reference photos to get it all done. I thank them for their kind help since this is my first build of this subject!! I had a blast..... These things are extremely rewarding and look like little jewels in fine detail.

The rear diff tube is made of aluminum and slips through the rear diff.I painted the tube with a red sharpie and a coat of future to keep it protected. The brake rotor is a DM piece but I turned the center hub on the lathe.

All of the bird cage, torsion bars, and torsion stops are off the MAS PE set. Mike Crowley from Dirtmodeler has all of this stuff and more on preorder.... I cant wait to use them on my next project.

I scratchbuilt the jacobs ladder from .060 styrene rod and PE bits from MCG.

Today I think I will get the bodyparts created and get them all primed.

The small rear wheel and fronts are from the parts box along with the gold centers. Originally I was using these but I may get real ambitious and turn some wheels and use Mike's PE centers I have on order really make this thing perfect. Originally I was going wheels on with this build but I got bitten by the detail bug again!!

Good Stuff!! How did you tackle the carbon valve covers? Multipiece decal, or one single piece?
