Yesterday I went to Hobby Lobby (National chain hobby store) with my son to get him some paint for the Steve Kinser Valvoline car that he is building. I was just looking to see what all they had and something caught my eye. I am wondering if any of you guys know anything about this particular product.
It was a custom decal making kit, I believe it was made by Testors. It allowed you to use the included decal paper with any inkjet printer to make your own decals. It came with a CD and some blank decal paper and not much else.
My question is...has anybody seen or used one of these? Can you actually design and make custom decals with it or is it more of a clip art program that has certain designs loaded on it and thats all it can do? ...
If I could use it to make replica graphics it would be neat to have. If it's just a clip art type thing with a bunch of premade general flame and stripe designs and thats all it would be mostly worthless.
As for my son's project.....dang I am proud of him.He has been itching to build a model for over a year, and me getting back into the hobby has allowed that ball to start rolling. He just turned 13, really isn't much of a racing fan, knows very little about sprintcars, but he is doing an amazing job considering this is the first model he ever built. Taking his time, asking lots of questions, painting every stinkin piece the proper color, letting the glue dry before he goes any farther, etc etc. Other that a quick wetsand on the tail tank I have not done one thing to assist him other than answering questions....I can't wait to post pics of his build on here...it's going to turn out every bit as good as any of the hundreds of sprinters I ever built back in my teenage years.

Hey there, yes it's mainly clip art, I have the cd and you can have it if you want it? Seems like you could create graphics, but I not 100% on that. It comes with the paper (5.5 x 8.5) and the clear spray. Give me a shout if you want the cd. Thx!

I put together a CD-ROM of different company decals you'll find on sprint cars. It always available if anyone would like one.
It get updated every so often with new logos that I come across.

I have used that same decal paper and the clearcoat to make contingencies and other small decals of my own using microsoft word. I think it works pretty well but you cannot print white ink like others do on this site to make decal sets.

Ive used the decal paper to letter a car once. It worked for me, but with limited drawing skills, and the availablity of geniuses like JOE! I choose to work with them. But the decal paper will work in a pinch just fine.

Re: Question about something I saw yesterday
I've personally never used inkjet, but I have a mate who does and his turn out good. I have used laserjet with much success in the past however now I have Patto with his silk ink process and he can do white ink, so I rarely bother to print my own any more. Both Joe and I use high end graphics programmes, Illustrator, corel draw, photoshop, etc and come up with the sheets you guys get to use. If it wasnt for Joe, I certainly wouldnt have progressed as far as I have. Now to pull the finger out and get some artwork finished and off to Patto......
