Favourite Late Model drivers

Post by Robbie27 »

Just wanting to know who would be the best Late Model drivers that any of you have ever seen race (not nascar prelude drivers  ) I know I have seen Scott Bloomquist race here in Aus, but who else would you rate as the best? ;)

Gotta go with Hewitt also. Tom's got the decals for two of the cars Hewitt drove.

Charlie Swartz was the best for sure, I crewed for him when he raced here in Australia for many years. One night here in brisbane he told the promoter he wasnt coming back after he told him to drive with one foot on the brake so as not to keep beating the Aussie driver by so far. I think you could call him an "outlaw".

I have only seen late models race in Adelaide twice and that was only because they were on their way home to perth after a big race meeting in sydney. But both times I was impressed with skills and raw speed shown by Brad Blake, Craig Vosbergen and Ben Ludlow especially given the size of the cars and the tightish confinds of speedway city.
Image Real men still play in the dirt.

Seen some really great taxi cab races over the years, more in Grand National sedans than late models, I am sort of leaning towards Tim Mc Creadie at present, the main fact being I may just do a modified of him as well ;)

I'm related to Walter Giles so I'd go with him as my favorite, closely followed by a good friend of mine, Barry Graham.

I have a modified 1/24th diecast late model car I will be decal-ling hopefully soon of one of Walters cars. My dad purchased the car from the US and the modification was done on the front to make it look like the "wedge" design from yesteryear.

All we need to do is find some clear plastic to replicate the wings and we are done.
